Moem barracks soldiers charged with stealing rifle
THREE soldiers from East Sepik’s Moem Barrack have been charged with stealing a rifle, says provincial police commander Supt Albert Beli.
He said that in March, an unknown soldier allegedly took the rifle from the guard house at the Moem Barracks.
“The weapon was taken to the barracks and hidden in the grass between Delta and Charlie Company quarters,” he said.
“Around 9pm (that same night of March 10), another suspect took it and passed it to a group of soldiers (six of them standing in the dark).
“The rifle has been missing from then till now.”
He said the weapon was moved out of the Moem barracks to Wewak town and believed to be in the hands of civilians.
“Three suspects were identified, arrested and charged with stealing,” Supt Beli said.
