EDA RANU chief executive officer Henry Mokono says claims made by the Fijian Team that the quality of Port Moresby water is poor is the “biggest joke in the Pacific”.

“Eda Ranu water is second to none in the Pacific. And for someone who just landed in Port Moresby for just two days to say that Eda Ranu water is contaminated is a joke,” Mokono said.

“Eda Ranu is ranked top 10 in the world and we have been scooping international awards for the last six years during the annual Pacific Water and Waste Association Conferences of which Fiji Water Authority is part of.

“We have Tongans, Fijians, and Samoans – in fact all the races from all over the world live and work in Port Moresby.

“Never once did they ever complain about water quality for the past 19 years since Eda Ranu took over the city’s water supply management.”

He called a press conference on Friday to refute claims made by the Team Fiji chef de mission Cathy Wong that Eda Ranu water was contaminated and they were boiling it to drink.

She sent an urgent appeal to Fiji for Fiji Water sent to Port Moresby for the Fijian team.

“We have invested millions of kina in our laboratories and there are 60 test points to check the quality of water before it gets to the taps in your house.”
