Mom, son among victors

A WOMAN and her son, and a married couple, are among the 37 candidates who have won seats so far in the Autonomous Bougainville Government elections.
Therese Anne Kaetavara won the South Bougainville Womens Representative seat while her son Emmanuel Carlos Kaetavara won the Baba Constituency seat in South Bougainville.
Also, Morris Opeti won the Taonita-Teop Constituency seat in North Bougainville while his partner Geraldine Yolanda Paul won the Central Bougainville Womens Representative seat.
Bougainville police commander Deputy Commissioner of Police Francis Tokura said the 37 winners successfully contested seats for the constituencies, representatives of the South and Central ex-combatants and women representatives for South and Central.
The representatives for the North ex-combatants and women srepresentatives are yet to be declared. Tokura said elimination for the ABG President’s seat was still in progress.
After the 15th elimination, former Bougainville Revolutionary Army (BRA) commander Ismael Toarama is leading with 33,642 votes followed by former Central Bougainville MP Simon Dumarinu with 22,843, former ABG chief secretary and retired army colonel Thomas Raivet on 15,410, former PNG Sports Foundation executive director Peter Tsiamalili Jr on 14,944, Fidelis Semoso on 14,167, former Bougainville Regional MP Joe Lera on 9,875 and former BRA supreme commander Sam Kauona on 9,370.
They are the remaining candidates from the 25 who contested the seat.
Couple Opeti and Geraldine Paul, mother Therese and son Emmanuel are first-time MPs of the Bougainville House of Representatives.
The writs are expected to be returned on Thursday to Governor-General Sir Bob Dadea.

  • Dangerous? How and why? If they became Victor’s through illegal or dubious means then yes, its questionable. If the declarations were made through the legal democratic process, then fair enough, let it be. Its the people’s choice.

    Being critical will no good reason could mean outright jealousy. To the Victors, Congratulations!!! Unique indeed.
