MOMASE FC were declared minor premiers of the Port Moresby Soccer Association (PMSA) competition.

PMSA secretary John Mogi announced and confirmed the Gerehu-based soccer team as the minor premiers at the Bisini Soccer ground yesterday.

Despite losing to Mungkas 2-0 in one of their poorer perfromances of the season yesterday, the Andrew Kinowin-coached team won the first minor title in 15 years.

With a Super League game yet to be played today between Cosmos and Rapatona which will not affect the points standing, Momase edged out Yamaros on goal-percentage to grab the minor premiership.

Mogi said the top five for the finals are Momase, Yamaros, Maclarens, University and Rapatona.

The minor premiers Momase will be on bye this weekend while Yamaros will take on Maclaren in the qualifying semi-final while University will take on Rapatona in the elimination final.

Rapatona will have to win their game against Cosmos today to consolidate their position on the point’s ladder.

Momase’s performance against Mungkas yesterday left a lot to be desired and despite finishing on top of the ladder the “pretenders” tag is lingering.

Mungkas led by captain Andrew Marampau and tireless midfielder Lam Vincent outplayed Momase in all departments.

Marampau scored the first goal through a header in the opening half before being replaced.

However, his assistant Rodly Mago kicked winning goal to bow out of the season on a high note.

Mungkas coach Robert Sabadi was happy that his team bowed out of the season on a winning note.

In the other matches on Saturday, Cosmos denied Yamaros as chance to win the minor premiership title after both teams drew 0-0.

University is out to stamp its mark in the final starting next week with 3-0 drubbing of Blue Kumuls in the other match.
