PRESIDENT Momis of the ABG goes on EMTV news (Sunday 6 Sept) and preaches about the small ordinary people doing their bit for economy of Bougainville yet the same man is hell bent on inviting in the Chinese to building their enterprises on Bougainville.

Aren’t we setting the stage for another crisis? What were the reasons why young Bougainvilleans took up arms against BCL? Because BCL had an iron grip on the economy of the island and locals were left as mere spectators – the mine, supermarket, logistics, buses, and just about everything was BCL owned and operated.

Now the same script is being rewritten with new players. Enough preaching, Mr President and empower the people through SMEs to play an active part in the development of their economy. I am sure you can talk to the current investors on Bougainville in the likes of Hakau and others for them to partner locals and jointly rebuild the Bougainville economy. Yes, the Chinese have the money but is pushing the locals aside the answer. Definitely not. People must be involved in driving the economy. Or else there will be another crisis.

Can you also check your government on how many projects the small people have submitted that your government has not responded to? Even some good projects endorsed by the former Tanis/Marat PEC have been totally ignored by the Momis/ Nisira government.
