Monitoring system on trial in city schools
The National, Friday February 5th, 2016
A NEW system to monitor the movement of teachers during school hours has been tried out in three Port Moresby schools.
Education Acting Secretary Dr Uke Kombra said the new teacher monitoring system was launched last December and tested at Badihagwa Secondary School, Limana Vocational and Ted Diro Primary School.
A report on the trial will be sent to the Department of Personnel Management.
Kombra said the next phase of the system would follow.
The project is to monitor teachers’ attendance and movements to address absenteeism, performance and punctuality.
It is supported by the PNG Teachers Association, Education department and the Teachers’ Service Commission.
Kombra said the system would work anywhere in the country, including remote rural areas.
“It can work on solar, generator or main power system. Where there is no power system, there are processes in place for back up,” he said.
Education Minister Nick Kuman said the introduction of the technology was to improve service delivery to students.
