MORATA Four settlers are determined to become the first settlement in the country to convert their stage into a suburb – if they are given land titles by the Lands Department.
The settlement of more than 5000 with their leaders have thrown their support behind this intention and released their consent for a local housing, building and design company Kingdom Estate and Associates to do a subdivision proposal, which is now ready to be handed over to the authorities.
The company’s managing director Elijah Psalmson Ulg said there was no intention for politics or money in the bid for land titles to develop Morata.
“Kingdom Estate and Associates want support the Governor of NCD (Powes Parkop) to achieve his vision to help people at Morata to have a better life,” Ulg said.
“We have complied with all procedures and are only awaiting a footnote from the governor for the subdivision proposal which we will present.
“When approved, we can get approval from other authorities like water and electricity companies and Lands to issue us title.”
Parkop stressed for settlements to be upgraded to suburbs to create access for government services to reach people.
He had been concerned by the population increase in the city which was now about a million, many living in settlements without access to important services.
Parkop said Morata would become a city centre and urged settlers living along important infrastructure corridors to come up with planning and embrace change.
The settlers said they were following that call and had in place the plan for his support for approval from relevant authorities.
The stage now is at a strategic location along the new Gerehu to 9-Mile road.
