More fake teachers exposed
By JINA AMBA
THE Education Department will start deregistering teachers in primary and secondary schools after dealing with 620 in elementary schools, says Education secretary Dr Uke Kombra.
He said they were going to expose all teachers in schools around the country who had entered teacher training institutions through fraudulent means.
“There are also primary school teachers who entered the system through the fraudulent means, like using other people’s certificates and changing their marks,” he said.
Officials are checking on the qualifications of teachers and will recommend deregistration through the Teachers Service Commission.
Dr Kombra said the aim was expose and dismiss all those who entered the system through fraudulent means.
“If there is anyone in the PNG education system who is aware of any teachers who came through fraud, you must report it to us,” he said.
“I call up on everyone that if you know any teacher in the education system that have not used their own certificates, you must report it so we can weed out this corruption.
“We don’t condone it and we don’t accept it. So if you want your children to be properly educated, and if you find teachers not performing to expectations, you have all the right to report it.”
Dr Kombra said most of the teachers were committed and hard working. But among them are those who did not come through the right process.
“They are actually spoiling the future generations and the department is very concerned about the future generation,” he said.
He said the deregistration of 620 elementary school teachers would affect classes that had been taught by the teachers.
“They will be definitely affected so we will have to come up with some strategies to cater for that gap we will have in the system,” he said.
“We felt that we cannot allow them to be in the system so we have to take them out.”

Thanks for the service provided.
A step in the right direction
Some of them have been committed to their teaching service for couple of years now so does the government have alternate plans for them? The education department is short of teachers yet they are exaggerating on getting rid of people who have been part of the system for a while. Think twice and act!
That’s a good beginning to improve the quality of PNG education systems. Best and proven quality teachers equals quality standards of students learnings and performance.
Every fake teachers need to be deregistered before more fake students are produced. Because of such fake teachers without quality of the teaching skills and knowledge, more boombox generations are exposed instigating more social disorders and social problems.
Give us a email address so we can directly email those teachers who are using other people certificate and now still teaching.
I agree with the process however, as these ‘teachers’ have completed training i would advise the Dept of Education to give serious consideration to the following. Such ‘teachers’ to under go additional teacher training supervised by their school principal, while continuing to be teaching if deemed that such ‘teachers’ have proven established classroom practice within that school. This traing process is to be identical for all such ‘teachers’ as proposed by the Education Dept. if 650 teachers are dismissed it is estimated that 25000+ student will be directly affected. I would mention that I have been involved in the education sector in PNG for 20 years from elementary to university level holding within this range positions of responsibility. T Cowland PhD
Teaching is greatly involved imparting, fake teacher Imparts poor knowledge that contribute to low education standards in the country
Let us cooperate together and weed corrupt seeds that spoils the country’s fertile soil. We need good students for good tomorrow, from good and qualified train teacher.
That is all well and good but I hope you have enough teachers waiting in line to replace those who are de-registered. Otherwise there will be gaps in the teaching staff in the affected schools, resulting in disrupted classes due to shortage of teachers.
The Education Department needs to improve. We are in the Digital world. Every certificate that is to be issued, must a system generated with copies archived. Every student’s face photo is a must to be taken and be on the Certificate. This is the only safest way to identify the Holder.
Excellent effort… For very long time, parents blaiming students, selection system and innocent hard working teachers whom have been called to served. These teachers may have contributed towards our kids failure, because they have no interest in teaching but choose to have a job and money.
Teaching is a nobel profession, they got to understand.
Then train more teachers. 21000 grade 12 leaver in 2020 and only 3000 plus got selected for tertiary education and what will happen to the 17000 plus. Something is terribly wrong here. Can’t the government see what’s happening. Waste of valuable human resources. Create more space in tertiary institutions before you increase output of grade 12 school leavers.
Education System will be improved by weeding out the weeds in the system. We Welcome the decision by TMT of Education Department.
Dr Kombra, what strategies do you have in place to make up for the shortfall of teachers? Are those teachers who are being deregistered going to be paid for the work they have done so far?
Very good work Dr Kombra and the Education Dept. Can these be also done with all Disciplinary Forces, Health Dept Esp Nursing Division both Private and Public. Deregister all that have entered through the fraudulent means. Benefiting from other people certificates, very shameful.
Congratulations on that overdue corrective actions.
That should also be executed out in ALL Government Departments starting today.
There are literally people producing with very high qualification documents and on file who simply cannot write simple technical English or even speak it accordingly for that matter. How can we tolerate such activities to continue for that long ?
Some can speak very good English however when it comes to writing English in direct relation to the duties performed they simply cannot put spoken English to paper and it is a complete shame to the office they hold and the organization. Do they ever have some guilt conscience to alert them ?
That must stop now and all government institutions must take the step where education department is moving to improve the quality of education, the profession one serves and ultimately service delivered.
How can you have an organization or a section in a department with highly qualified people who simply cannot speak appropriate English as anticipated to compliment the position and the organization ?
Oh man .. talk about PNG nepotism and plagiarism ! Mate I think 50% of working Papua New Guineans nowadays must have used another person’s qualification or have altered their certificates to get into the positions they are in now ! Recipe for disaster .. ?
More teachers to be deregistered soon and so I guess the Education Minister will pay the remaining teachers more because there will be extra workload and work hours on these poor teachers. Too much talking Minister.
