More like a state of death than origin
The National – Wednesday, July 13th 2011
I REFER to your report “Woman dies in Origin violence” (July 8).
Papua New Guineans are still unable to distinguish between entertainment and their emotions.
Most Papua New Guineans love to watch State of Origin games for pleasure and profit.
However, we do not know how to control the after-effects of watching these games.
Why do we have to continue reading about Papua New Guineans killing each other after watching State of Origin games?
What is wrong Papua New Guineans?
Our behaviour and actions tell the world that we are not yet mentally developed.
Maybe the government should ban the broadcasting of State of Origin games in future.
If nothing is done, we will experience the same phenomenon again and again.
Should we continue to portray our stupidity and meaningless actions year after year?
I must remind my fellow Papua New Guineans that where there is pleasure, there will always be danger too.
Let’s learn to treat State of Origin games as entertainment and nothing else.
We cannot revert to our primitive mentality and kill our loved ones or fellow Papua New Guineans when the team we support loses.
