There is a need to train more people in Madang on financial related matters under the microfinance expansion projectan, training specialist Andy Philip said.

He said they were working towards educating more people apart from the 3900 target.

“We are trying to increase the number so that the Madang population can be able to have access to financial education,” Philip said.

The Bogia Corporative Society had been contracted under the project.

“They are being contracted to train 3900 people in Madang and they have been working with educational institutions, church networks, and going out into the communities on their own,” training and curriculum development specialist Jagdeep Dahiya said.

“They have really taken the pain to go into the deep pockets, into the remote areas.

“They have something called the village bank network – so that is what they are using for educating the people on the use of financial services.”

He said they had trained about 360 people since February.
