MEDAL tallies ticked again yesterday as weightlifters from six provinces added the second lot of medals to their teams’ progressive tally at the Sir John Guise Indoor Complex.
The women’s events that were completed yesterday afternoon saw a much more even haul compared to Team NCD’s raid the previous day in powerlifting.
Team Central finally broke their gold hoodoo with two to Ranuinu Samuel in 53kg division and Mona Lisa Kassman 63kg category, and added one silver to Boni Vere 58kg, and bronze Koi Gele in the 53kg division.
Team NCD also bagged two golds from Philo Naime 69kg and Matilda Iso +75kg divisions.
Iso also lifted a personal best of 95kg in the clean and jerk. Teammate Mackline Karapen +75kg took the silver and Eden Kambi 58kg settled for the bronze.
The late arrival of Team WHP was pardoned with their first gold in the 75kg by Grace Ange while Daphney Joshua 48kg of Team WNB and Toksy Amepa 58kg from Team EHP also won gold in their respective divisions.
In the men’s competition that ended at 9pm last night, Team EHP collected two more gold at the Indoor complex, from a field of 23 lifters in five divisions.
Richie Basi 56kg, and Fr Bogdan Cofalie 85kg topped their divisions, while veteran lifter Piniye Malabi had to settle for bronze in the 62kg division.
Team Morobe added one gold and two silver to their tally through Ari Danny 62kg (gold), Nawi Sisi 69kg(silver) and Reo Adams 56kg(silver).
Team WHP’s Philip Mogi 69kg (gold) won his province their second medal at the complex, and Team WNBs effortless John Suluf recovered from yesterdays golden effort in powerlifting to again take his second gold.
Team NCD managed two silver and two bronze in the 62kg, 69kg, 85kg and 77kg respectively.
A top lift for Team EHPs Father Cofalie of 115kg and Team Wests Suluf 107kg in the clean and jerk brought the house down and ended a long three days for the lifters of both disciplines.
Medal Presentations will be done today at 9am.
