More teachers to be sacked for using fake papers

MORE teachers are expected to be sacked by the Teaching Service Commission for using fake documents to enter teacher training institutions, an official says.
Commission chairman Samson Wangihomie said they wanted only qualified teachers to teach children.
So far, 620 elementary school teachers have been sacked because of the fraudulent ways they used to become teachers.
“Investigation continues and there will be more teachers leaving,” he said.
“The ones who have been vetted are yet to go through deregistration and termination.
“If we want quality, let’s get quality.”
He said one of the challenges the commission faced was the lack of bio-data on teachers to make it easy to monitor them.
The commission is also working with the Education Department to decentralise power to provincial education officers.
Wangihomie said teachers disobeying orders would be dealt with as they were the “frontline of education and everyone is looking up to them”.
The commission will also make sure that nobody is paid twice.
He warned the teachers assigned to fill in positions in some school but working at the provincial education headquarters to stop doing that.
He thanked the teachers who had performed extremely well last year during the Covid-19 to make sure that students completed their examinations.
