MORE than 200 people who gathered on Independence Hill early on Sunday were told that God had been “good to us” over the years.
Leading the events to mark the annual Repentance Day celebrations, Deputy Speaker Jeffrey Komal said as a Christian country, everyone must always take time to seek God’s forgiveness and ask for His mercy and love to continue to flow into their lives.
“God has been good to us over the years and today we would like to thank Him for all that He has done for us,” Komal said.
He said churches played an important role in nation-building and MPs, both in Government and the Opposition, appreciated the role of churches in national development.
“We as the government recognise the work you all are doing in our nation in health, education but more importantly the spiritual development of our people with the word of God.”
He said churches had also been playing a major role in changing people who were involved in drugs, sorcery related violence, violence against women and children, cult worship, and alcohol-related problems.
“May our Good Lord accept our repentance and release his blessing over our land and that PNG be a prosperous nation as we continue to develop into the future,” he said.
