More than 900 expected to attend mining, petroleum meet

MORE than 900 delegates are expected to attend the three-day PNG Mining and Petroleum Conference to be held at The Stanley Hotel & Suites in Port Moresby.
Prime Minister James Marape will address the conference, together with Oil Search managing director Peter Botten and Ok Tedi Mining Ltd managing director Peter Graham.
They will be speaking on share value opportunities in the petroleum and mining industry respectively.
The biennial conference alternates between Port Moresby and Sydney.
The Port Moresby conference covers technical and project updates while the Sydney one is an investment conference to attract foreign investors in mining and petroleum.
Mining Minister Johnston Tuke, Petroleum Minister Kerenga Kua and Treasury Minister Ian Ling-Stuckey will be talking about the 2020 National Budget’s vision for PNG.
Jonathan Bloch, head of strategic banking, resources energy and infrastructure of the ANZ Group will also address the delegates.
Some of the topics to be discussed over the three days include opportunities and shared value in the energy/oil and gas sector, shared value opportunities in energy from the landowner companies’ perspective, opportunities and shared value in the mining sector, Government economic overview and international perspective, exploration and project updates from the mining and petroleum industry.
The winners of the six categories of the PNG Chamber of Mines and Petroleum Resource Industry awards will be announced at a dinner tonight at the Hilton Hotel.
The six categories include the outstanding health and safety initiative, the outstanding landowner company shared value performance, the outstanding women’s contribution in the resources industry, the outstanding PNG local content and training champion, the outstanding environmental initiative and the outstanding humanitarian initiative.
