MINISTER for Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology Delilah Gore has stated that PNG needs more universities.
Thumbs up to the minister.
Well said and yes, PNG does need more universities to cater for the increasing number of Grade 12 students who are graduating each year.
However, the main question is has the government considered their lives after graduating from these universities?
Is the government creating and increasing job opportunities to cater for the increasing number of university graduates every year?
With the current situation on the ground, many of our university graduates end up just roaming the streets and getting involved in criminal activities in towns and cities.
Some have even gotten killed by the police because of their crimes.
I think that building three more universities will increase the capacity of human resources in the country, but it will also increase the number of unemployed youths.
Therefore, I strongly suggest the government look at both sides of the issue.
Build universities, but create and increase job opportunities as well so that there are no more qualified graduates on the streets.
