THE Department of Works (DoW) has expanded induction training to more than 200 employees nation-wide.

The training began in the National Capital District and the Highlands region last year and has continued to Mamose and the New Guinea Islands this year.

The training is facilitated by the PNG Institute of Public Administration School of Government and based on the traditional approach and Certificate Two in government.

DoW human resources development assistant secretary Alex Gebia said many were recruited under the department’s new structure that required proper induction to familiarise  them with public service sector structures.

“They will receive this  important training so that they are recognised as qualified and professional public servants,” Gebia said.

DoW’s coordinator for courses Paruru Vaieke said training also emphasised on the code of ethics so that staff performed their best to meet the goals of the department.

“It is an opportunity for them to be recognised as a public servant,” she said.

“After the induction they will be assessed and be placed on probation.”
