Moresby association out to develop junior volleyballers
THE National Capital District Volleyball Association (NCDVA) has set its sights on developing and exposing young talent in Port Moresby.
President Edward Aisi said that during the association’s maiden volleyball festival over the Independence weekend.
“It has been a tough tournament over the last two days,” he said.
“We had eleven teams confirmed across the Under-21 and men’s divisions.
“We’ve had good performances from young players.
“Children as young as 14 years are playing in the U21 division.
“That shows that we have so much potential in our junior players.
“I believe in young talent and if junior development has to start somewhere, it should begin at the ages of 13, 14 and 15 years.
“This tournament is one way of exposing talent and it is also a lead-up to the national club championships.”
The festival was an NCDVA initiative to bring local associations together to compete.
“We wanted to get all the associations together during the 44th Independence celebration,” Aisi said.
“Although we had a decline in numbers, the tournament ended on a high note.
“From here, a lot of clubs and associations will have had a good lead-up to the championships.”
