THE Port Moresby Men’s Softball Association has cancelled its 2019-2020 finals due to uncertainty caused by Covid-19
Minor premiers United Brothers and Gazelle Antelopes were crowned champions in A and B grades respectively. Association vice-president Ali Daveona told The National on Friday that the long postponement of the competition would not help them prepare for next season which starts in September and that the decision to cancel had to be made under the association’s by-laws.
“After much consideration due to recent events and our concern for the safety of our players and affiliates, the association has decided to cancel the remainder of the season, in line with our bylaws,” Daveona said.
“This means the finals will not be held and the minor premiers of A and B grades are automatically crowned champions for the season.
“We will now reset and plan for the next season which starts in September.
“I would like to thank all teams for their participation this season.
“I would also like to thank their sponsors for supporting them in their campaign.
“My appeal to all players, coaches and supporters is to look after their health in this unprecedented times, especially with Covid-19.
“We hope that the situation improves and we can start fresh in September.”
