Moresby South churches receive funding for programmes
PORT Moresby South MP Justin Tkatchenko has handed over K150,000 to churches in the electorate to support their programmes.
Churches in Pari, Kirakira, Vabukori and Wanigela villages of Motu-Koita benefitted from the financial assistance.
“Churches play a huge role in creating a better and safer community of all of us, therefore, this commitment is made to support the churches with their programmes so we continue to improve our people and society,” Tkatchenko said.
“The church is a very important pillar of society.
“I know times are not easy, and that’s not only for the churches but for all our people and the Government as well.
“Our reverends have not been paid and funding has run short.
“When times are tough we need to all come together and help each other out.”
Tkatchenko welcomed the initiative of young people to be involved in church programmes, saying it was a good sign.
He encouraged more young people to take part in church activities.
Tkatchenko gave K50,000 to the United church in Pari, K20,000 to Kirakira, K20,000 to Vabukori and K20,000 to the East Port Moresby circuit which consists of 11 churches in Moresby South.
He also gave K20,000 to the Koki Adventist church in Wanigela to support women who will take part in a conference from Sept 23 to 29.
Tkatchenko gave K20,000 to the Ariko Bay men’s rugby touch team which has been taking part in a yearly tournament in Cairns, Australia.
He also pledged K50,000 for the renovation of the home of Kirakira United church Rev David Kwalahu.
