THE Moresby South Rugby League JT Super 9s kicks off today at the Sir Bill Skate Oval.
Lands and Physical Planning Minister and Moresby South MP Justin Tkatchenko, pictured, launched the tournament with a K100,000 allocation — K20,000 for the cup winners. There are 35 men’s (senior and U20s) and eight women’s teams for the tournament. Finals will be on Sunday
Tkatchenko said he was happy support the tournament and league because of the good work president Brown Murema and Bagelo Solien had done developing and improving rugby league in the electorate. MSRL is one of the city’s leading leagues with plans already underway for the construction of a stadium on the site of the Sir Bill Stake Oval set to be completed this year.
MSRL president Murema said his executives were proud that Tkatchenko had faith in their leadership and management and promised to make their league the best in the national capital.
He said the tournament would be used as a pre-season tournament ahead of the start of the regular season next month. Tkatchenko is expected to kick off the cup final.
