Moresby South Rugby League runs coaching clinic

MORESBY South Rugby League conducted a clinic yesterday to teach coaches the proper structures and skills in order for their players to apply them correctly during matches.
Under coaching director Bagelo Solien, the league took the initiative to conduct the clinic rather than await the assistance from the Papua New Guinea Rugby Football League (PNGRFL).
“Thirty coaches from our competition were given the opportunity to learn the basics in attack and defence at Moresby South Stadium,” the former national women’s team coach said.
“Training programmes should be properly planned for the week, so players are not overloaded with training.
“When you regularly overload your training sessions, you run the risk of player burnout during the season.”
Solien said coaches must allow for player recovery by introducing rest days during the week.
“We are helping our coaches gain better knowledge and experience to apply the correct skills and structures during matches,” he said.
“We funded this for the good of our coaches. Our league is one of the biggest in the Southern Confederation.”
League chairman Brown Murema said: “We are still awaiting the PNGRFL to determine our programmes and activities for the year. We don’t know when the provincial championships will be held, but our squads are preparing for the event.”
