MORESBY South Rugby League will hold a trial match to select a women’s squad for the Papua New Guinea Rugby Football League Southern Confederation provincial championships in the National Capital District.
League chairman Brown Murema said the trial, between Team White and Team Red, would take place at Moresby South Stadium tomorrow.
He said selections would be done on merit.
Murema said all women would be treated the same irrespective of their rugby league experience, with tomorrow’s performance of each triallist to weigh heavily on selection.
“There are no free spots,” he said.
“You have to perform well to earn selection.
“This weekend’s regular women’s matches are all deferred to next week.”
Team White boast the experience of Janet Johns, Lisa Bina, Carol Francis, Eli Paisoi, and PNG sevens rugby union squad members Lynette Aua and Jill Yallon.
Team Red will be counting on Mofa Steven, Nisella Ravu, Maria Waula, youngster Ruth Gende and a host of upcoming talents all vying for spots in the 22-member squad.
