MOROBE bodybuilders are ready to compete at the National Bodybuilding Championships in Port Moresby over the Queen’s Birthday weekend (June 9-11).
After a training session yesterday, president Zacchaeus Posanei said his bodybuilders were aiming to win the title of Mr PNG.
He said with Port Moresby holding the title for some time, his bodybuilders were training hard to turn their fortunes around.
“Our bodybuilders have been training for the last two months and are ready to go,” Posanei told The National.
“However, we need funding to get our bodybuilders to the championships.
“We wrote several letters to companies in Lae as well as to the provincial government but so far, there has not been any response.”
Posanei said despite not receiving a response, the bodybuilders were still continuing their training in the hope that they would secure a sponsor.
“If worse comes to worse, I will ask each bodybuilder to fund their own trip to Port Moresby and back,” he said.
“Over the years, our bodybuilders have been the powerhouse of Morobe at the PNG Games and the national championships.
“I’d like the government of Morobe to come to our aid when we are in need. Bodybuilding has been winning medals for Morobe at the PNG Games.”
