MOROBE police commander Augustine Wampe has appealed to the newly-elected member for Finschafen, Renbo Paita, to build a new police station in the district.
The district’s newly built police station was burnt down in an election-related attack.
“Finschafen district has been going through a lot of law and order issues recently therefore there is a need to build a police station to curb law and order issues,” he said.
He said the newly elected MP should make it his priority to build another police station.
“This police station was built by the police department at a cost of K1 million and I don’t think the department will build another one. The responsibility now lies with their newly elected leader to build a new police station for his people,” he said.
The Assistant Commissioner of Police in Northern, Peter Guinness, said several suspects have been  taken in over the arson attack.
“The suspects were brought into Lae to be interviewed,   however, I am
yet to receive a report on that,” he said.
