AN official from the Indonesian embassy is on a courtesy visit to Morobe to meet education officials.
The embassy’s education and cultural attaché, Achmad Tavip Syah, met education officials yesterday.
The meeting looked at possible arrangements for a partnership in education programmes between Indonesia and Morobe.
Organiser and provincial education programme adviser Keith Jiram said Syah’s visit was a follow-up to two meetings earlier this year in Indonesia.
“This is the first time an official from the Indonesian embassy has visited Morobe,” Jiram said.
“This is also the first time Morobe is about to establish a partnership with Indonesia.”
Jiram said the talks would look towards creating scholarship opportunities for technical vocational education and training (Tvet) students, teacher attachment and exchange programmes.
“The main area of focus is Tvet,” he said. “There will be a meeting with managers and heads of Tvet institutions in the province.”
Jiram said a teacher, Fred Ogia, with the help of the embassy, would be attached with Lae Secondary School to improve their communication lines.
“He will teach Bahasa (language), information and communications technology and science,” Jiram said. “Language is a barrier to development and because of that, we have him here.”
