Morobe launches cocoa price support programme
MOROBE launched its cocoa price support programme at Munum in Wampar, Huon Gulf, on Monday.
PNG Cocoa Board chief executive officer Boto Gaupu who launched the programme said most of the Government’s price support programme of K50 million went to coffee and cocoa which involved 60 per cent of the population.
“Cocoa has been rolled out in all districts.
“The cocoa board wants to go down to the fermentary level so that the majority of the people are involved,” he said.
“Farmers at the village level who sell wet beans are the people who are at the end of the market value chain.
“Price support is ensuring us to export more cocoa so that we bring more foreign exchange into the country.”
Gaupu said 90 per cent of the population depended on agriculture.
