THE on-going ethnic clashes within settlements around Lae that has claimed many innocent lives and caused destruction to number of private properties must be fully investigated and adequately addressed with the ultimate aim of putting an end to this growing concern.

Lae has seen some of the worse rioting in the history of this country since the time of late Utula Samana right through to Luther Wenge’s rule and now under the current Naru regime.

I now call upon the wisdom of the Morobe Tutumang (provincial assembly) to arrest this growing problem that is now threatening the existence of this city and seriously deal with its root causes.

Often we see attempts made by the Morobe Provincial Government to address problems and issues on an ad-hoc basis that don’t normally work out in the long run.

The citizens of Lae deserve nothing but guaranteed security, freedom of movement and the liberty to conduct their normal affairs.

The business houses in have suffered loss in terms of business time and even worse when their property get damaged during riots or civil unrest and this does not help our efforts as a nation in promoting investor confidence and growing our economy. The ball is in the court of Governor Naru.
