NEARLY 6,000 grade eight students in Morobe have been selected to continue into grade nine in high and secondary schools this year.
The 5,970 students sat the certificate of basic education examination last October.
Provincial examination supervisor Michael Gerson said 11,850 students sat the exams in 326 primary schools last year but 5,880 were not selected.
“The grade eight results are ready so head teachers or caretakers should collect it at provincial education office,” he said.
Lae had 3,304 grade eight students last year, with 1,930 continuing to grade nine this year.
Tewae-Siassi had 717 students with 311 selected to secondary schools. The other seven districts had between 800 to 1,700 grade eight students last year.
Gerson said those not selected could go to flexible, open and distance education centres.
“They will attend flexible, open and distance education (Fode) to upgrade their marks to continue their secondary education,” he said.
Gerson said students were selected according to secondary schools catchment area.
