THE Morobe provincial executive council has declared a half-day public holiday yesterday in respect of the death of Stella Naru, wife of Governor Kelly Naru.

She passed away last Thursday at the Port Moresby General Hospital.

Deputy Governor Morokoi Gaiwata said half-day holiday yesterday would allow people to attend the funeral service at the Resurrection Lutheran church at Top Town in Lae.

“This is the first time the wife of a serving leader of the province has died and the break is a way of thanking her for the support she gave her husband, children and family, the people of Lae and the province,” Gaiwata said.

He said it was also a way for the province to show their support and respect for women.

Her body was flown to Lae yesterday  she will be laid to rest at Naru’s village at Irom near Igam tomorrow.
