Morobe police to train Hidden Valley security
The National, Thursday 29th of November, 2012
MOROBE’S Hidden Valley mining company has reached an agreement with police to run a six-week reservists training course for its security personnel.
The company’s acting general manager Russell McKenzie said he hoped that the training would run successfully as it would play a very significant role for its officers.
Fifteen staff from all Morobe Mining Joint Venture (MMJV) sites of Hidden Valley, Wau and Wafi-Golpu will attend the training which is aimed at creating a strong working partnership with police in Bulolo and Wau.
Once training is completed, the whole operation of this unit will come under the command of the Bulolo district police commander and station commanders.
The company’s asset protection department (APD) police coordinator Daniel Matalogi said his men’s challenge was to ensure that the rule of law was respected in the communities.
Matalogi said respect and commitment were an essential part of training.
“This is a vital part of the whole operations within Morobe mining,” he said.
“Hidden Valley is fortunate to receive this training, thanks to a very long and close working relationship with the police hierarchy in
the country.”
Morobe acting provincial police commander David Warap said such a trained unit would be welcomed by surrounding communities.
“The agreement reached on Nov 15 will strengthen the delivery of police services
at the mine and surrounding communities,” Warap said.
