THE Morobe Show in Lae at the weekend allowed businesshouses and agricultural organisations to promote their products and services.
There were also cultural groups singing traditional songs during the two-day event.
Show committee chairman Mike Quinn encouraged the showgoers to support local businesses and called on the government to think of the rural population.
“There are many good businesses in Papua New Guinea, who are contributing to the national economy.
“When you buy PNG products, you support thousands of other Papua New Guineans, and you support the growth of our economy.” Quinn said.
He said the governement should look at developing the rural areas, and to support the local farmers and growers in remote areas to promote their locally made products.
Morobe Governor Ginson Saonu thanked businesshouses, agricultural organisations and cultural groups that made the show possible.
Trukai Industries Ltd took out the show’s best exhibit and the grand winner’s prize.
Chief executive Greg Worthington-Eyre said Trukai had always been a great supporter of the show and it was a rewarding experience for his entire team.
He said the show was an opportunity to promote what PNG had in agriculture and Trukai was delighted to have been a keen supporter of the event as a major sponsor for several years.
“This year we placed more emphasis on our commitment towards developing a local rice industry for PNG by setting up an information hub with various displays surrounding our exciting and innovative projects in rice, cattle and livestock,” he said.
“We also showcased our 100 per cent home-grown Hamamas rice and the feedback from showgoers was overwhelming and we are satisfied knowing Papua New Guineans are proud of their own rice,” he said.
Ramu Agri Industries Ltd (Rail) donated K52,500 to the Morobe Province Agricultural Society (MPAS) and 70 cartons of packed sugar for singsing groups that took part in the show.
Rail had two stalls – a corporate stall, which displayed raw materials and samples and models of machines used in operations, and a commercial stall used by their beef-farming team.
PNG Forest Products was awarded the best stand and display award.
The company also won third place in the industrial manufacturing and natural section.
