THE polio vaccination campaign in Morobe will continue with rounds 5 and 6 in February and April, an official says.
Deputy health adviser Jack Aita told The National yesterday, the National Emergency Operation Centre in Port Moresby was yet to confirm the dates.
“Round 4 of the campaign in December last year cost about K1.2 million for vaccination of children from birth to 14 years,” he said.
“The target for babies under 11 months was 23,287, and we vaccinated 23,476.
“For 1-4 year-olds, the target was 85,384, and we vaccinated 103,608.
“For 5-14 year-old, the target was 182,411 and we vaccinated 187,49.
“In round 4, we administered Vitamin A supplement to babies from six months to five-year-olds targeting 97,803.
The Vitamin A complements the oral polio vaccines, for babies 6-11 months we administered 14,248, and for children 1-5 year-old, we administered 88,342.”
“Rounds 5 and 6 are also important because we will need to cover every child that was missed out, given the nature of the polio virus.”
