THE Morobe Provincial Executive Council has agreed that its Gerson Solulu Scholarship programme for tertiary institutions will be reviewed later to cater for new students, Governor Kelly Naru says.

“The two provincial ministers – for education and human resource – are to prepare a submission on the establishment of a separate administrative structure for management and administration of the scheme for PEC deliberation,” he said.

The decision to defer the review of the scholarship policy was in response to concerns raised by the Morobe Tertiary Students Association,” he said.

“This Government wants to see the effective and efficient operations of its tertiary scholarship with a positive record.

“It, therefore, needs a proper timeframe to gather all its stakeholders to develop a better framework,” Naru said.

Naru said an office for the scholarship would be set up where officers responsible for the programme would be based.

Morobe Tertiary Students Association president Hans Roy Gwaiko said students were concerned about online application, 2.5 GPA cut-off mark and the timeframe of the interview process.

“The scholarship guidelines were incompetent, baseless and biased. We call on the MPG and stakeholders to review the guidelines not by 2016 but later,” Gwaiko said.
