THE limited preferential voting (LPV) system chances of tampering during quality checks and elimination process while and uses up a lot of money, former Morobe Governor Luther Wenge says.

Wenge was critical over the LPV system describing it as a method that encouraged corruption to creep in during quality checks and the elimination phase and as a result there were many cases before the court of disputed returns.

“LPV method allows voters three chances to choose a leader but consumes a lot of funding throughout the whole election period.”

He said that quality checks and the elimination stage were when vote tampering can happen.

Wenge was reluctant to disclose his 2012 election experience, instead alleged that candidates with money power bribed poll officials in charge during quality checks and elimination process.

“The first past the post (FPP)method requires one vote, one count and results were anticipated when the counting begins with outside districts,” he said.

Wenge urged Morobe Tutumang (assembly) members to pursue legal clarification about the Limited Preferential Voting and First Past the Post methods instead of grievances over government’s decision to conduct local level government and  the national elections concurrently.
