Mose: Flood victims will be assisted if State approves

ACTING National Disaster and Emergency Services Director Martin Mose, says he can only assist the flood victims in Indonesia if the Government advises him.
“The Indonesian Government had assisted the earthquake victims during the earthquake in Southern Highlands, Hela, Enga, Gulf and Western with US$500, 000 (about K1.6million) where about 40,000 were affected.
“So it is good for the PNG Government to reciprocate by assisting the flood victims in Sentani in Papua Province.
“But then it is up to the Government to inform my office”.
His comments follows concerns raised by the Jayapura-based PNG Consular-General Geoffrey Wiri that the Papua New Guinea Government did not provide reciprocal assistance to the victims of the flood-affected areas in Indonesia when their Government had contributed about K1.6 million for the earthquake victims.
On March 16, this year, devastating floods in Sentani left more than 100 dead and thousands of people left homeless.
