CENTRAL defender Mosie Milubwa, pictured, is one of several new faces in the Lae City Dwellers, who will make his first overseas appearance in this weekend’s OFC Champions League in Auckland, New Zealand.

From the Trobriand Islands in Milne Bay, Mosie, as he likes to be called, is a seasoned campaigner in the semi-professional soccer competition, having played for the now-defunct Tukoko Unitech club in the 2009 and 2010 seasons.

After Unitech folded, Mosie  migrated to Morobe United, then Lae FC, before teaming up with Lae City Dwellers, where he has been for the last two seasons in the Telikom-sponsored National Soccer League.

The veteran backliner came close to being called into PNG men’s team but had strong opposition from teammates Valentine Nelson, Japhet Tiampo and Roland Bala, which saw him missing out.

At the age of 31, the father of one will be the first Milne Bay player to play at the region’s top level competition – the OFC Champions League.

Mosie told The National before departure that his first overseas trip meant a lot for him, coming from a humble start in the Alotau soccer competition before his move to Lae.

Mosie vowed to give his best at the OFC tournament and gain as much experience as he could to become a better soccer player.

He thanked Lae City Dwellers coach Peter Gunemba for giving him the chance to be part of the Dwellers.

Mosie believes the Dwellers will put up a strong challenge.
