SUBSTITUTE David Mosim’s second-half goal helped PS Rutz edge Blue Kumuls 2-1 in the Port Moresby Soccer Association nine-a-side competition at the Bisini Soccer Ground on Sunday.
Blue Kumuls dominated early through Morris Fridy and Steven Inia, forcing PS skipper Donovan Murray and his men — including Tusbab Stallion Michael Saun — into a slow start.
The Kumuls eventually opened the scoring through forward Scott Malagian but PS Rutz responded through Saun for a 1-1 scoreline at halftime.
A strong second half from PS saw them dominate possession with Murray and Saun leading their attack.
A midfield break then saw Mosim beat the Blue Kumuls defence to net the winner five minutes from fulltime.
“Overall, we all didn’t play our best football but we’re happy with the win,” Murray said.
“We’re still getting ourselves organised to find a training ground but we believe we can improve as the competition continues.
“Our fitness is something we really have to work on once we settle down and find a place to train.
“A lot of the boys in the team are back from the (Kumul Petroleum) National Soccer League and we’re looking forward to playing well.”
