Mother calls for local MP’s help
The National, Tuesday 1st of April, 2014
A MOTHER who works for the Port Moresby South PNG Rehabilitation Centre is calling on their Member of Parliament to look at the needs of the disable people in the electorate.
The local MP is Justin Tkatchenko, who is the Minister for Sports and 2015 Games.
Maria Arivu, who is a disabled, gives her time to work for the disabled.
She is the coordinator of Port Moresby South Rehabilitation Centre and her husband assists her to do the work of helping the disabled.
Arivu said the she had visited 70 people in the suburbs and settlements in the Port Moresby South electorate. Most of the people we found them to be hopeless.
“They are unrecognised. They are just living idle in the homes,” she said.
She said many of those people had no hope but when we interviewed them and encourage them, they found some hope.
She said: “We registered every disabled that we came across to and identified their needs.
“We then organised a gathering for them and we get the president for PNG Rehabilitation Centre Brown Kapi to talk to them. And we gave them what they needed such as wheel chair, clothes and food.”
to make them happy.”
I urge our MP to support us by helping us to form an association for each suburb.
\ in the electorate so we can help them properly.
Arivu said: “There needs to be a community hall or a training center for the disables to empower them to be useful in the community”.
