A MOTHER charged with dangerous driving causing fatal injuries and the death of her son and another man appeared for mention at the Waigani Committal Court yesterday.
In court was Lorraine Kwarara, of Gabagaba in Central, charged with two counts of dangerous driving causing death and one count of dangerous (reckless) driving causing fatal injuries.
Kwarara was on a police bail of K1000.
Magistrate Cosmas Bidar extended her bail and adjourned the case to Oct 24 for mention.
Police alleged that on July 21, at around 4am or 5am along the Sir John Guise Drive in Port Moresby, Kwarara drove a car, a Ford Ranger, along the main road in a manner described as dangerous and which resulted in an accident that took the life of her son and Fredrick Todi. Court documents stated that: “Kwarara was travelling from Vision City (Mega Mall) towards the Somare Foundation roundabout after passing the Manasupe Traffic Lights.
“She lost control of the car about 200 metres away from the traffic lights and went off the road.
“The left tyre (front) hit the median at the bus stop near the Manasupe Building and the vehicle overturned. It rolled twice and finally rested.”
It was alleged Kwarara was under the influence of alcohol and speeding when the accident occurred.
