Mothers make surprise lunch visit to school
The National, Friday 6th June 2014
MORE than 200 mothers cooked special dishes and took them to a school to share with their children and teachers.
The women were from the Nipa Basin United Church Central circuit in Nipa-Kutubu, Southern Highlands.
They shared the food with the 30 teachers and more than 1200 students at the Nipa Secondary School.
The teachers and students enjoyed the food at the assembly ground.
School principal Kua Wel said it was the first time he had seen such a gesture during his 22 years of teaching.
Wel said the secondary school received K312,057.25 in the first batch of the tuition free fee subsidy which was not enough to keep the school running.
He thanked the mothers for cooking the food and sharing lunch with teachers and students.
Church circuit Rev Socapun Tapun said the community had witnessed changes at the school and wanted more to happen.
