Motor cyclists prepare for Yamaha 4-Nations Enduro
The National – Wednesday, March 16, 2011
OFFROAD motorcyclists are currently putting their machines through their paces to prepare for PNG’s first Yamaha 4-Nations Enduro next Sunday at the Goldie River Barracks.
Last weekend, members of the Port Moresby Motorcycle club scouted out a suitable course for competing riders of the first-ever 4-Nations involved to stage this competition.
Due to recent heavy rains, the track is boggy, eroded and overgrown in places, and these elements coupled with Port Moresby’s heat, will test the mental capabilityof all competing.
All eyes will be on the PNG Team of Goroka rider Dan Hargraves and Lae’s Ben Frame who will partner with a third PNG team member whose name is yet to be released.
The duo has a background in various disciplines, including the Enduro and motocross with Hargraves putting in a strong effort in the infamous 2007 Australian Finke Desert Race under the PNG flag.
Meanwhile, Frame had seen action on the amateur motocross circuit in the United States in his younger years and is still a potent competitor.
The Yamaha 4-Nations Enduro will be held for two days, with riders from South Africa, Australia, New Zealand and PNG competing to win the first event of its kind.
Spectators are welcome and are encouraged to support their country.
The main race is a four-hour event starting at 10am at the Goldie Barracks – Warrior Wing Facility. A qualifying race will be held on Saturday to determine the three-man teams for each competing nation.
This event will be between a 1-2 hour event at the same location starting from 10am.

The Port Moresby Motorcycle Club meets on Thursday evenings at South Pacific Motor Sports Club also known as The Car Club from 6pm.
