MOTU-Koita West Netball Association teams are looking forward to making a mark at the Newcrest National Netball Championships in Goroka, Eastern Highlands, from Sept 18-23.
Association president Kori Toua-Navuru said the teams had been training for a number of weeks, with the aim of preparing a strong squad for the tournament which will be held at the National Sports Institute.
“We have some great untapped talent, particularly in the junior divisions, who we are taking to the championships for consideration for the national training squads,” she said. “Our association is made up of villages in Port Moresby of Hanuabada, Poreporena, Tatana and Baruni with more than 1,000 active members.
“Under the one-netball-our-future flagship, we are excited about visiting Goroka so we can meet our sisters from other member associations across all four regions and enjoy a feast of netball.”
Toua-Navuru extended her appreciation towards sponsor Pacific Industries and Newcrest Mining Ltd for their support to women in sports.
“Despite the economic challenges we face as women in sports, the support from our sponsor and Newcrest Mining Ltd is timely to promote equal opportunities for girls and women at this event,” she said.
The senior titles will be held from Sept 18-20 and the juniors from Sept 21-23. The annual general meeting will be held on Sept 21.
