DR Andrew Moutu is returning as the National Museum and Arts Gallery director, a position he held for many years up to August 2016, according to Public Service Minister Elias Kapavore.
He was reappointed last week to replace Alois Kuaso who has been acting in that position since June 2017.
Moutu was the acting director from June 2010 to March 2011.
He was confirmed director from 2011 to August 20, 2016. Kapavore said the National Executive Council then appointed Senea Greh as acting director from December 2016 to March 2017.
Then the board of trustees managed the institution for three months before Kuaso was appointed in June 2017. Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Emil Tammur said.
Tammur said the National Executive Council had approved Moutu’s appointment.
“Dr Moutu is not new to the field, having been the head of this important institution in the past. His contributions and style of management have been recognised by the government, hence his formal appointment,” Tammur said.
“I hope to work with Dr Moutu in the coming years and further wish to see the museum deliver the aspirations and the desires of the government, particularly the Apec Leaders’ Summit in November.”
Tammur will announce the new board of trustees later.
Moutu said he would reward the trust given to him by the government by rehabilitating and growing the institution.
“In the next four years, we want to build this place with trust, leadership, management and creativity.”
