Move causing suspicion

THE Road Transport Authority (RTA) has announced that they would no longer entertain private taxi to operate.
They stated that private taxis should register with registered companies to operate.
It is interesting to see Independent Consumer and Competition Commission (ICCC) chief executive officer Paulus Ain, speaking of cartels setting up in PNG.
It is a timely comment as it takes little vision to understand the forcing of private taxi operators to team up with larger transport operators.
That is the first step to cartels being set up.
It starts with the elimination of competitors, then its collusion between business and ethnic groups (cartels) for those who do not know what the word means.
We have witnessed, in the 45 years of independence, ethnic groups snatching control of state-owned entities, departments and pumping out licences to their wantoks killing off any viable competitors, then holding the travelling public at ransom.
Gone are the days of yellow topped radio taxis, the colourful Frangipani flowered Pagini Taxis and of course the much missed Alu Harry and his great car.
