QUALITY teacher education is crucial for quality education, University of Goroka vice chancellor Pro Musawe Sinebare says.
“If you want quality education, you need quality teachers,” he said last week while making a point on the university’s post graduate diploma in education programme.
He said many people read and write about the quality of education but quality learning could be obtained only when teachers’ welfare is addressed adequately.
Teachers’ actions in turn affect students and the quality of education.
“As long as the teacher is not in the classroom, there is no teaching and no learning,” Sinebare said.
He said that people have to understand that we must make investment decisions to improve the quality of teaching and learning and all this depended on resources.
For the first time University of Goroka has introduced a six-week intensive post graduate diploma in education course for teachers in the national education system who do not have teacher qualifications.
