Move to declare PNG Christian country right

Letters

THE Government’s move to declare Papua New Guinea a Christian country should be supported.
Since the country gained Independence in 1975, no government launched such an inquiry.
Now is the time it should happen for the will of God.
Even though leaders of certain churches and individuals have opposing views on the inquiry, I believe Prime Minister James Marape has done the right thing.
In 2007, then-prime minister late Grand Chief Sir Michael Somare stood up at a Christian gathering in Port Moresby and said that he declared PNG a Christian country.
Sir Michael made the declaration as an individual, not as a government.
After that declaration, churches in PNG were instructed to correct their mistakes in terms of following what is written in the Bible.
However, most churches have ignored that.
In 2018, former prime minister Peter O’Neill was directed to make a law and declare PNG a Christian nation.
O’Neill ignored and was removed from power.
