CRAFT market vendors in Port Moresby are happy with the practice of moving their Saturday market around.
The vendors sell their products to mostly tourists and businesses in four different locations.
It is held at the Laguna Hotel on the first Saturday of the month, Moresby Arts Theatre on the second Saturday, Holiday Inn on the third Saturday, and Ela Beach on the final Saturday.
Dodom Investments Limited managing director John D’Siguria said he was happy with the rotational craft market arrangement because tourists and owners of businesshouses visited these locations. “Because these rotational craft markets have been provided to us in the well secured sites, our buyers are comfortable with it and we tend to make good money,” D’Siguria said.
D’Siguria, who comes from Trobriand Islands in Milne Bay, buys the handicrafts in the province and sells them in Port Moresby.
“It is a way of promoting Trobriand handicrafts.
“I am also giving back money to my people when I buy from them.”
The company provides traditional totem poles, black ebony hand carved figures, wooden bowls and stools, hand woven mats, placemats, fans, baskets, Trobriand lime pots, jewelry and grass skirts.
It also provide services in export clearance, fumigation and stock hire.
