A SEVENTH-day Adventist (SDA) church in the Cloudy Bay LLG of Abau district in Central received a contribution of K100,000 last December.
Located about seven hours’ drive from Port Moresby, this little church will now have a new church building and a pastor’s house.
The fund came from the Abau District Development Authority (DDA) and was presented to the Duramu SDA church Pastor Pimas Dobela on Dec 28 by the Member for Abau and Minister for Public Services Sir Puka Temu.
The fund would be used for the renovation of the church and also to be used to build the pastor’s house.
The minister presented the cheque in the presence of the district administrator for Abau Trevor Tarava, Cloudy Bay LLG president Stanley Miles, and Duramu ward member Bala Joe, the Central Papua Conference president, Pastor Kovetau and the church members and the community.
In presenting the cheque Temu acknowledged the efforts of the church board of the village and the Duramu community in Port Moresby who administered the church’s activities without government’s support.
“The present government and the previous government want to acknowledge the church’s contribution to development in Papua New Guinea,” Temu said.
He commended the contribution of the SDA mission in education and health.
He said he wanted to be part of this government and partner with the church to deliver service and encouraged the community with these words: “Always believe in God and believe in yourself.”
