MINING Minister Byron Chan has allocated K5 million for a road project in the Sinivit Local Level Government in East New Britain.
He said Mineral Resources Authority had confirmed that the construction of the three-kilometer road would begin this month.
Chan was responding to Pomio MP Elias Kapavore in Parliament this week on the funding to upgrade the road at Sinivit.
Kapavore said the road was in a poor condition.
Chan said: “There was a K5 million allocation appropriated under 2015 PIP budget. The MRA has been in consultation with the ENB provincial Works and has scoped the first three kilometres of the road at a total cost of around K4.5 million.
“Public tender has been put out by the CSTB (Central Supply Tenders Board) as of last year and only two bided for the road project,” he said.
“As of May 12, CSTB officially endorsed MRA to convene a technical evaluation committee meeting to deliberate on these two bidders and make final recommendations to CSTB to award the contract to the successful bidder.”
