WESTERN Governor Ati Wobiro has lodged an application in the National Court to dismiss an election petition against him.

Former Governor Bob Danaya had filed the petition disputing Wobiro’s 2012 general election victory alleging bribery and irregularities in the counting of votes.

Danaya came second in the regional seat contest, polling 2000 fewer votes than Wobiro on 19,504.

Wobiro’s lawyer Goiye Gileng made a submission before Justice Derek Hartshorn.

Gileng said the petition did not state the particulars to support the allegations against Wobiro and did not have the elements of bribery.

“It is the duty of the petitioner to spell them out correctly. It did not say if the money was given to procure voters and these people were electors,” he said.

He said allegation on irregularities involving omission by counting officials did not have specific particulars in it.
